Welcome to Reception with Mrs Williams and Miss McLauchlan

Children start their Hetton Lyons journey in EYFS, it is the foundation of children's school experience and their love of learning. This is why we work hard to ensure that children have lots of wonderful experiences and opportunities to build on their understanding through play and collaboration.

Our broad and varied curriculum is shaped by the needs of and interests of the children and follows the EYFS framework.

One of the huge milestones in Reception is beginning our reading and writing journey through Phonics. We follow Little Wandle phonics programme throughout Reception and this enables our children to believe in themselves as readers and writers. You will find out more about Little Wandle on our phonics page. Information about how to support your child with phonics can be found on the 'Phonics for Parents' page.

At Hetton Lyons we value the relationship between home and school. One of the areas in which we can support each other is to develop children's love for reading. Children will bring home two books each week, one will link to their phonics undertanding, the other will be a book to be enjoyed together. Both books are equally important in our approach to reading.

It is important that children come to school ready to learn each day. We ask that everyone is in correct school uniform and that children bring a water bottle and book bag.

Please contact Mrs Williams or Miss Mclauchlan if you have any further questions or concerns about phonics and reading.

Reception start PE after their settling in period and will wear their PE kit for the full day. PE kit is a white t-shirt, navy blue or black tracksuit bottoms (no logos) and school jumper or plain hoodie. Reception do PE on Friday each week.
