Bear Class

Bear Class is designed for pupils who are ready to engage more consistently with formal learning and access elements of the National Curriculum. It provides a structured yet supportive environment where pupils continue to develop their independence, confidence, and academic skills, while still benefiting from the specialist approaches of the Autism Resource Provision.

Pupils in Bear Class follow a personalised learning pathway, accessing the National Curriculum within the provision (the Den), alongside carefully planned opportunities to join mainstream classes. These transitions are thoughtfully supported and tailored to each child, ensuring they feel confident, prepared, and successful in a larger classroom environment.

Teaching in Bear Class balances direct instruction with adapted learning strategies to meet individual needs. Lessons are scaffolded and differentiated, with a continued emphasis on visual supports, structured routines, and clear communication. Pupils are encouraged to build resilience, develop problem-solving skills, and take increasing ownership of their learning.

Communication and social interaction remain key priorities. Pupils are supported to develop functional communication skills, engage in meaningful interactions with peers, and build positive relationships both within the provision and in the wider school community.

In addition, pupils continue to access targeted interventions and supportive sessions where needed, helping to strengthen emotional regulation, independence, and readiness for learning. This holistic approach ensures that each child is well-prepared for the next stage of their education, both academically and socially.
