Year 2
Welcome to Year 2 with Mrs Ryder and Miss Field
Reading bags should be brought into school daily with reading records and library book (children will have the opportunity to change this weekly).
A new reading book will be sent home on a Friday, please listen to your child read this and celebrate their progress. The book will be collected the following Friday, we encourage the children to choose a book of their choice to read at home alongside their school book. We would love for the childen to read something that captured their imagination and interests, they can then tell us all about it when they come into class. We will be encouraging children to recommend stories to others based on whatthey've enjoyed too!
Homework is set every Friday, there will be a piece of maths homework in a book and spelling practice (Spring 1).
PE kits should be worn on your child’s PE days. PE Kit is white t shirt, navy blue or black tracksuit bottoms (no logos) and school jumper or plain hoodie. PE days for Year 2 are Wednesday and Thursday. Children with their ears pierced should be able to remove and insert their own ear rings - if this is something that they are still working on then please remove them at home before school.
Autumn term in Year 2...
We have had a truly amazing autumn term in Year 2, full of exciting learning and memorable experiences. The children loved learning all about the Great Fire of London, exploring lots of fascinating historical facts and writing a chronological report in English. In art, they used their collaging skills to create wonderful Great Fire of London artwork. During D.T., the children made vegetable soup, carefully using their cutting and peeling skills to prepare the ingredients, and they thoroughly enjoyed tasting their finished soup. As we headed towards Christmas, we were fortunate to take part in a magical snow tubing trip to Silksworth for P.E., where we enjoyed hot chocolate and went snow tubing with the elves – a truly lovely festive visit. We have also loved all the Christmas celebrations this year, from parties to the nativity, with the children particularly enjoying making a Christingle for our end-of-term assembly.
