Wellbeing is about feeling good and enjoying everyday life. It is influenced by the things we do, how we think, and the environment around us. Research identifies five key ways to boost wellbeing, and at Hetton Lyons, we have carefully embedded these across our curriculum and school life:
-
Connect – Building strong, positive relationships with peers and adults. We encourage collaboration in the classroom and provide opportunities for children to work together in clubs, group projects, and peer support initiatives.
-
Be Active – Engaging in regular physical activity to benefit both body and mind. Our PE lessons, playground games, and after-school clubs promote movement and a healthy lifestyle.
-
Take Notice – Being aware of the present moment and appreciating the world around us. Mindfulness sessions, reflective activities, and outdoor learning help children focus on the here and now.
-
Keep Learning – Trying new things and developing skills boosts confidence and resilience. Across our curriculum, children are encouraged to explore new subjects, solve problems, and pursue personal interests.
-
Give – Acts of kindness and helping others create a sense of purpose. Through community projects, buddy systems, and charity initiatives, pupils learn the joy of contributing to the world around them.
By embedding these five ways to wellbeing across school life, we support children in developing positive habits and coping strategies that enhance their overall happiness and resilience.
We are proud to have recently achieved the Gold Charter Mark Award for Wellbeing, reflecting our dedication to nurturing the emotional, social, and mental health of every child at Hetton Lyons.
