Badger Class
Badger Class - Semi-formal Explore
Badger Class is designed for pupils who are ready to engage in early learning. It follows a hybrid approach, combining elements of both pre-formal and formal curricula. Pupils in Badger Class receive reduced direct teacher input, alongside increased modelling delivered in shorter sessions, to help them develop the skills needed to progress within school life.
Learning in Badger Class is highly hands-on, giving pupils opportunities to learn through sensory-based activities that are carefully linked to the curriculum. This approach supports pupils in remaining regulated and engaged, helping to build key learning skills which, in turn, support their transition towards a more formal curriculum.
Pupils also have access to sessions such as Attention Autism, fine motor skills, cookery, and music therapy. These sessions are designed to support learning in foundation subjects by developing pupils’ attention spans, strengthening hand and finger muscles to support early writing, and building self-regulation skills and promoting independence.
A key aspect of Badger Class is our focus on communication. We support pupils who are verbal, pre-verbal, and non-verbal in finding ways to communicate their needs and wants. This is achieved through the use of symbols, communication boards, and Makaton. We also promote peer-to-peer interaction through circle time and role play, helping pupils to develop essential social skills, which are key for this group of learners.
Something we are proud of!
During the Autumn term, we have been exploring changes in the seasons through our English storybooks and topic work. We have explored the colours associated with autumn and winter, creating artwork using natural materials and these colours. We have also looked at describing the weather and experiencing it first-hand.
