Creative Arts Week

Date: 11th Mar 2022 @ 4:13pm

We have had a great week celebrating ‘Creative Arts Week’. We learnt about an artist called Tommy Hollenstein. He is a wheelchair user. He puts paint onto the wheels of his chair and creates different patterns. He even changes the wheels of his chair to mix tracks and create different textures. We thought of different objects from around our classroom that we could use to replicate Tommy Hollenstien’s work.

We began by using rollers that had different patterns and watched how they created different textures on our page. We used different colours and observed how the colours changed. Then we used objects from around our environment with wheels. We used our vehicles and construction wheels and created some fantastic designs. In our outdoor environment, we used our large wheels and watched how the tyre tracks made patterns on the paper. Next, we painted the wheels of the bikes and scooters. We rode them over the page and looked carefully at how the colours patterns mixed.

After reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, we decided to use our skills to create a beanstalk. We used the different wheels tracks to create the beanstalk.

During Creative Arts Week, we also explored other types of expressive art. We performed a poem called ‘Pancakes’ to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. We also enjoyed expressing ourselves to music during our PE lessons. Finally, we performed our retell of the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ in a song. It has been wonderful exploring lots of types of creative art.
