World Book Day – March 2021 – Literacy

Wow what an amazing World Book Day we had in school and via remote learning. To celebrate this day, we came into school and attended our remote-learning sessions in a character’s costume from a story or in our pyjamas and a brought one of our favourite books with us.

We love to read and share our stories and therefore shared our stories with our friends over Google Meet, and in the classroom and even played guess the story, where our teachers read a story and we had to guess their favourite stories.

Our lessons today were all based around our favourite stories and characters. Our focus author in Year 2 is Roald Dahl and we decided to base some of our activities around his stories. We made a recipe using the disgusting snozzcumbers from the BFG and made wanted posters to find the giants who had escaped from their pits. We even invented and named our very own “propsposterous plants”!

We attended the World Book Day workshop and drew our own illustrations for the books.

We created our own scenes from our favourite stories using anything we could find, including junk modelling, toys, leaves, drawing and craft materials

In music we wrote our own song for World Book Day and we held a whole year group Google Meet session so that the remote-learners and the children in school could join together and sing to celebrate World Book Day.
