Hetton Lakes Visit

Date: 20th Jan 2022 @ 11:53am

During our topic of 'There's no place like Hetton', we have been looking closely at what Hetton looked like before we were born. We found out that there used to be a coal mine in Hetton. We looked carefully at new and old maps and discovered that Hetton Lakes used to be a coal mine! We decided to visit the park so that we could look at how space had changed over time. While we were there, we saw the miner's wheel. This was an important symbol of the colliery and is in the park to help us to remember all of the people that lost their lives in the pit. We had a great time and enjoyed playing in the park too!
