Geography Comparative Study of Durham and Rome

Date: 9th Feb 2022 @ 10:47am

This term our Geography unit of learning has been comparing Durham to Rome. The children have looked at physical and human geography and learnt many new facts about each city. They compared each city, looking at the population, key landmarks, land use and much more. The Children enjoyed learning about a local city as it has a lot of history also attached. This helped us to find out reasons for its location and purpose.

To help us to draw a lnad use map and understand the reason people visit Durham, we had a visit. On the visit, we looked around Durham Cathedral, walked around the historic market place and along the very picturesque river. The children sketched landmarks, noted down new facts and used these back in school to compile a leaflet all about Durham. These are displayed in our classrooms and on purple mash.

We noticed that both Durham and Rome have high numbers of visitors because of the historical sights such as Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle or in Rome the famous Colluseum, but Rome is a much bigger city with a higher population. Both have restaurants and cafes and both have beautiful scenery.

Have a look at some of the photographs from our visit.
