Art Week 2022

Date: 11th Mar 2022 @ 1:36pm

Artists, artists everywhere! Year 6 wowed us during Art Week with their creative work. Our focus was Pop Art and, in particular, work by Patrick Caulfield and Andy Warhol. The children were given an image of ‘Coloured Still Life’ and were asked to replicate it. Their replicas were amazing! After this, they created their own piece of Pop Art in the style of Patrick Caulfield. Once again, they produced fantastic pieces of art.

All children explored monoprinting and produced some excellent pieces of art in the style of Patrick Caulfield. Oil pastels were the best medium to use as it gave a better-quality finish.

Year 6 were given the opportunity to visit the Hatton Gallery in Newcastle where they were able to view and enjoy pieces of Pop Art. Can you believe that ‘Marilyn Monroe’ and ‘The Campbell’s Soup Tin’ by Andy Warhol were there?

The children were able to dance their socks off when we linked our Pop Art unit to PE and our Geography unit of learning on North America. ‘Dancing in the Street’ by Martha and the Vandellas was our chosen piece. We had so much fun!
