'Who Is a Bright Spark?'

In science, we have been learning about electricity.  We've learnt:

  • How electricity powers our homes and buildings
  • How to make a simple circuit
  • What makes a circuit break
  • What happens if in a circuit if we turn a switch on and off
  • What happens when we add more bulbs to a circuit
  • Which materials are conductors and insulators of electricity

We began each science lesson with a question to get our minds thinking scientifically.

Cookery and Nutrition

As part of our work on Modern Day Rome we've enjoyed learning about some traditional dishes enjoyed in Rome today..

We made: pizza, Arrabiata and garlic bread and biscotti.

We used the following skills:

Cutting, chopping, slicing, peeling, grating, mixing and stirring,

Ancient Rome

As part of our Ancient Roman topic, we visited Segedunum Museum and Fort in Wallsend. We dressed as Roman Legionary Soldiers and practiced marching in the Tortoise Formation. Here are a few of the memories from a fabulous day

What would you find if you went to Rome for a  holiday?

We researched modern day Rome to find out about the famous landmarks and the culture. We then used digital literacy to persuade people to visit the Eternal City.

Reading Challenge

Bible Comes Alive

We had a great day listening to some first hand experiences of Jesus's life at Easington Lane Methodist Church. We even got to meet yet another Roman Soldier!

What's next?

What a fabulous start to Year 4! We particularly enjoyed the trip to Segedunum Roman Fort and for some of us the chance to improve our swimming skills. We are very excited to see what the second half of the term will bring, especially the chance to do some Italian cookery and to start our Science unit, 'Who is a Bright Spark?'

Next half-term term will also see us practicing our skipping skills, ready for the Sunderland Schools Skipping Festival. We can't wait to skip straight through to the 23rd November for this!
