EYFS

At Hetton Lyons Primary School, we believe that every child is unique and should be valued. We allow children the opportunity to learn in a safe and nurturing environment. Our EYFS vision is to create a rich and exciting curriculum which provides practical and real-life experiences to engage all children and develop their love of learning. In the EYFS we know that each child is unique and we strive to create a place where all of our children can learn and grow, following their own curiosities and interests and building on their experiences, knowledge and skills. We have created a safe, secure and caring place where our young children are confident, happy and have fun learning.

We have an ethos of respect and tolerance. We appreciate and celebrate our differences, similarities and our efforts and achievements. We provide children with high quality learning experiences. These experiences are based on a broad and balanced curriculum which builds their personal, social and emotional wellbeing, develops their knowledge, skills, curiosity and interests.

The New Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is the framework that sets out children’s learning and development from birth until the end of the Reception year.  It gives children a wide range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

The EYFS covers seven areas of learning: Communication and Language; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. The Government set out Early Learning Goals for children to reach by the end of Reception. The Early Years Framework can be found here. The progress and achievements of children is closely monitored, reviewed and assessed by teachers throughout the Reception year.

In Reception we use Tapestry as an online learning journal. Teachers and Practitioners will upload children’s ‘Wow moments’ onto Tapestry for parents and carers to view at home. Parents and carers are also encouraged to upload any exciting moments from children at home too.
